Workshop Photoshop Basics

Wednesday 19 October and Friday 11 November 2022
Where and when:
Session 1 – Introduction to layers, selections, and masks:
Onsite at the Dee Why RSL Club
Wednesday 19 October from 7.00 PM

Session 2 – Exercise 'Blue eye'
Via Zoom online meeting
Friday 11 November from 8.00 PM

Scope:
Sandra Smith and Peter Kappelmann will introduce you to the Adobe Photoshop workspace, explain the basic ideas of layers, selections, and masks, and explore some key tools. We will then use our new skills to change the subject's eye colour in a photo, remove blemishes, dodge and burn, crop, and finally save the file so that it meets the club's guidelines for showcase submissions.

Target group:
Members who are not familiar with the above concepts and actions and would like to give Photoshop a go.

What to bring to session 1:
  • If you'd like to participate in the practical exercise, bring a fully charged laptop. You can also team up with other members or simply watch and listen to the tutorial.
  • If you bring a laptop, make sure that Adobe Photoshop is installed. It does not matter whether it is the most recent or an older version, paid or trial.
  • For the exercise, download the photo pexels.com/photo/close-up-photo-of-right-person-eye-1435823/ to your laptop.
  • Optional: Mouse or graphics tablet. But a track pad or track point built into the computer will also do. We cannot promise that enough tables will be available.
  • Optional: Power cord and an extension lead. Note that we cannot guarantee access to power points though.
  • Optional: Print-out of the learning material for the exercise, which you can download from here.

Workshop Material

Session 1:
  • Presentation in Microsoft Powerpoint PPT format
  • Presentation in Adobe PDF format
Session 2:
  • Tutorial with step-by-step instructions
